But you shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the unttermost part of the earth. (Acts 1:8 KJV)
Power is an attribute of God. Of His power, the Bible says, “Great is our Lord, and of great power…” (Psalm 147:5 KJV). It is Power that elicit God’s presence and existence. Without Power God would not be God nor His creation existent. God is revered and feared because of His Power.
The concept of Power is natural and well too known to all. In human, animal and plant kingdom, there is a segmentation and differentiation occasioned by power. There is a natural tussle to dominate or gain control, the weak is conquered and the strong is domineering. Even in the performance of feat, tasks and exploits; power is a necessary tool. One cannot endure being powerless.
About the Kingdom of God also, the Bible says, “The Kingdom of God is not in word, but in Power. (1 Cor. 4:20 KJV). The distinguishing feature of God’s Kingdom, it practices and profession is its Power content. Without Power, the Christian faith will be weak, feeble, without impact or effect. The Bible testified of the immense power dimension of the Christian witnessing and early Missionary work of the disciples when it says, “With great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.” (Acts 4:33 KJV). Power is what validates the testimony and witnessing of the Christian Faith.
As Christians and Kingdom citizen, we must recognize the compelling need to walk in Power. Paul, in his first letter to the Corinthian Church emphasized the role of Power in Ministry and Kingdom service when he said, “my speech and preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of Spirit and of power. That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” (1 Cor. 2:4-5 KJV). There is the accompanying power content that makes Christian Ministry and Service effective and impactful. We will not be able to accomplish the mandate of being Christ’ disciples without the attending power to generate result.
Beloved, the power of God is the necessary means to fulfil the demand of the Christian faith and demonstrate its potency. Without the power of God, a Christian cannot even overcome sin, temptation or the despotic whims of the wicked. It is for this important and necessary cause that Jesus cautioned the disciples to remain in Jerusalem until ye be endued with power from on high (Luke 24:49 KJV). This notice is for every believer, to gain need and understanding of enduement of Power from God to be effective.
We must not only gain this notice but also consciously and continuously deploy and depend of God’s power as we walk, talk and work God’s kingdom events and activities. Let’s us be attentive to Jesus’s admonishment to receive power as also He did to proclaim God’s kingdom. “How God anointed Jesus with Holy Ghost and Power, who went about doing good for the Lord was with him.” (Acts 10:38 KJV). We must tarry in prayer asking God for the enduement of Power to be relevant in Kingdom activities. Praise the Lord!
