O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker. (Psalm 95:6 KJV)
Worship is a necessary component of our relationship with God. It is the quintessential element of our adoration, the acknowledgement and acceptance of His first place in our lives therefore deserving our foremost attention. It is also a part of our service or ministration unto God as worship is a requirement of God, a demand by Him for our necessary Good.
About Worship and its demand by God; the Bible says, “I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.” (Exo. 20:2-6 KJV). Notice, God says, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me… Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them” God is very clear about His intolerance to our worship and service of other gods. We must be clear about this demand and avoid occasion that conflict our worship and allegiance of the True God. This is for our necessary good as the penalty of the infraction could be grievous and far reaching unto the third and fourth generation of them.
Worship is an act of service shown for adoration, admiration and respect of someone or person. It is the notion of deference, preference and reverence extended to a person for the deep respect borne toward such essentially for the value or benevolence so derived from existing relationship. Note that worship is a product of knowledge and relationship. We must know who we worship.
At a well in Sychar, a city of Samaria, Jesus said to a woman He met, “Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship…” (John 4:22 KJV) A worship cannot be true where what or who is worshipped is not known; such worship is false and baseless; truly it is to no value but concerning our worship of God, the Bible reiterate, “O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker. For he is our God; and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand.” (Psalm 95:6-7 KJV) We worship God for He’s our maker, our God; we are His people and the sheep of His hand.
Beloved, our knowledge of God, His blessing and benefits to us will naturally motivate our worship and service of Him. This is important to our wellness and wellbeing. Akin to the compensation and benefits adduced by an employer to an employee for which an employee will be eager and willing to serve, so will everyone be willing and eager to worship and serve God when the blessing and benefits of God being our God is both known and understood. Let us therefore gain and grow in the knowledge of God and our worship of Him will seemly be natural. Let us worship and bow down…to God our maker. Amen
