I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. (Psalm 34:1)
The secret of men is in their story. It is important for you and I to hear well when we read or hear communicated words. The Bible says, “Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.” (Luke 8:18). If one gives heed to how one hears; understanding what is communicated, such one will grow in knowledge knowing more (such one will be given more) but when there is corrupted hearing as a result of noisome pollution, whatever he seemeth to have shall be taken away from him.
We need to pause and examine often not what we heard but how we heard what was communicated to us. Every spoken word is laden with profound secret of which if one properly and completely understands; the truth or secret in the Words can be verified and an appropriate action triggered. It is important that we gain truth of Words rather than the letter of Words.
The Lord Jesus Christ clearly demonstrated the importance of how one hears against what one hears, as the Bible says of him; “But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them,…”, (Luke 11:17) Jesus did not respond to what he heard but how he heard…he responded to the thoughts behind the words they said and not the words said. It is important to understand that Words are declared thoughts… for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh (Matt. 12:34).
It is this background that informs and defines how God hears everyone and responds to what everyone says. We may all say the same thing to God but derive different responses from Him, for God hears well; not what was said but who said it. For instance, Jesus said clearly “Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. (Matt. 7:21). How is God hearing you and me?
David, a prolific writer of love songs to God earned an enviable status among humans as a man-after God’s heart. About David, the Bible says, “…the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people, … (1 Samuel 13:14). Notice how the Lord chose him, he sought for him and found him…and we know how God locates people: quite unlike how man sees; “for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” (1 Sam. 16:7KJV). This is how the Lord found David and He still does that today…God never changes.
Now, it will be fitting on our part to examine and know who David was and what he had that attracted God and made David a man after God’s heart. God so verified David’s heart, that God trusted him with His people and made him their captain but not so for Saul. This is remarkable.
David said, “I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth”. (Psalm 34:1).
This is David…this was why God found him. God is still looking for such men today. Let’s commit to have God’s praise in our mouth continually. Amen
