Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Matt. 6:9 KJV
God is our Father. There is grace and joy in the revelation of this truth. This is a whole truth and nothing but the truth; nonetheless like many other truths relating to God, the enemy obscures, belies the ingenuity of God to deprive Man. But when truth is known, freedom is secured.
The Word translated Father (in English) means root or generator; the source or spring. It also means nourisher, upholder and protector. We all originates from God and this is a very important truth. It is for this important reason that Man cannot be sustained, nourished or protected outside the provisions and nourishment of God.
About God being our Father, the Bible says, “Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live” (Heb. 12:9 KJV). The Bible identified and recognized God as the Father, source, root or spring of our spirit. This is a very important disclosure. It is about this revelation that Jesus came to connect us that we (Man) may regain wholeness as we are made complete in Him. Our spirit is derived from God. This is an important truth.
The notion of God being our Father was foreign and far-fetched to Man that our Lord Jesus Christ in His bid to introduce and reinstate the truth about this was considered blasphemous and offensive. The Bible says, “Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. Therefore, the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.” (John 5:18-19 KJV).
Notice, the carnality of Man (the nature of Man without the knowledge of God) could not admit or tolerate paternal relationship with God; Man persecuted the truth about himself, but the truth and sincerity of God is to have Man know that God is indeed our Father. The Lord Jesus was eventually killed; the Bible says, “The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.” (John 19:7 KJV).
Beloved, there must be something dare and daring in the notice and revelation of God being our Father for which Christ was both beaten and killed and when he arose by the power of God, He said to Mary, “Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.” (John 20:17 KJV). The notice and knowledge of this truth must be disturbing and debilitating to the devil but comforting and enriching to us the people of God; we cannot afford to walk outside of it and its provisions. God is our Father…Praise the Lord. Let us invest and walk in the comfort of this truth and be strengthened. Amen.
