The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. (John 4:15 KJV)
It is important that we understand our need to come to the Lord Jesus the Christ.
Beloved, we must come to Jesus Christ, the Living stone that provides the living water. This is needful and important for our health and wellness. According to the Bible; “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (John 7:37-38 KJV). To derive the fortune, fatness and riches inherent in the Living Stone; we must come!
Notice, the invitation is to any man (that) thirst; this typifies the vulnerability, need and requirement of the Children of Israel (symbolic of the Church) on their journey from the Egypt to the Canaan; the promised land. At a point, they became thirsty and desperate for water. The Bible says, “The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the Lord commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. So they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?” (Exo. 17:1-3 KJV). The people were dire and desperately thirsty during their journey but there was no water. David would also say of his own experience, “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; (Psalm 63:1 KJV)
The Christian life experience is replicated by the traverse and experiences of the Children of Israel who journeyed in the wilderness for forty years. The various experiences they encountered, documented and typified the Christian life and journey experiences from the World (Egypt) to the Heaven (God’s promised land).
In their exposure and experience, when the Children of Israel encountered this desperate thirst, the Bible says, “the Lord said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go. Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.” (Exo. 17:5-6 KJV). The people would come to that rock to drink and quench their thirst. That rock would later be identified as Christ as the Bible says. “they all drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. (1 Cor. 10:4 KJV)
Beloved, it is to that same Rock, that you and I must come to quench all life’s thirst. The Bible identified Jesus Christ as the Rock, a Spiritual Rock, Living Stone chosen by God and Precious to Him to provide relief for all life’s thirst. We must come to the Living Stone and drink; we cannot claim we are busy, occupied or engaged, the need to quench the thirst is the urgency that must drive us to the Living Stone to derive and draw the much-needed living waters and as Jesus said; we would find rest for our souls. Come to the Rock.
